Japan’s Hokuriku shuts tsuruga power unit

Japanese utility Hokuriku Electric Power has shut down the 700MW No.2 unit at its Tsuruga coal-fired power plant because of a technical problem. Hokuriku was forced to halt operations at the Tsuruga No.2 unit in Fukui prefecture yesterday when it heard irregular sounds coming from its boiler, possibly attributed to a steam leak. The company is currently investigating the cause of the problem. It is still unknown when the unit will be brought back on line.
