It is well-known that in IF steels, carbon and nitrogen in solution are scavenged as precipitates containing titanium and/or niobium. The precipitation behavior has been claimed to affect the evolution of the texture and, hence, the drawability performance in IF steels. On the other hand, aluminum is commercially added to low carbon mild steels in the range of 0.02~0.07wt% as a de-oxidizer. It is also well-known that there is little effect of aluminum on the mechanical properties of steels when the Al content is in the range of 0.02 to 0.07wt%. However, the Al has a possibility to affect the precipitation behavior in IF steels because it has a strong influence on the transformation kinetics in DP and TRIP steels as a very strong ferrite stabilizer1) and/or a promoter of austenite carbon enrichment2). The goal of this work was to investigate the effect of aluminum additions on the mechanical properties of Ti-Nb bearing interstitial free high strength steel(IF-HSS).
