Some iron ore mixes are more difficult to sinter than others, usually meaning that alterations have to be made to operations in order to achieve the required productivity. The difficulty in sintering a mix depends on: its performance in granulation and in sintering or, simply, granuability and sinterability. Plots of permeability (e.g., JPU) versus mix moisture are commonly used to quantify granuability. No technique is available to characterise sinterability. This paper reports a novel technique to measure sinterability.
