摘要

The explosion of scientific data in this post-genomic/proteomic era, with its potential to solve many intractable health problems, has accelerated the speed with which researchers have tended to accumulate huge amounts of information in isolation. In our opinion, scientists studying the immune response to infectious organisms, describing the role played by the immune system in various pathological conditions (including autoimmune disease and atherosclerosis) and developing methods for harnessing immunity to treat malignancies, could benefit from knowledge gained in their colleagues' respective disciplines.
