Magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs) were synthesised by the co-precipitation method and coated with amino functional groups which allowed for amide bond formation with the carboxylic acid groups on zinc tetra- or octa-carboxyphthalocyanine (ZnTCPc or ZnOCPc respectively). The absorption spectra of ZnTCPc linked to MNPs showed a reduction in aggregation, while the photophysical parameters (Phi(T), tau(T) and Phi(Delta)) of ZnTCPc or ZnOCPc increased upon linking with the MNPs.
