To ACCELERATE Hypertension Control

Introduction: According to the latest report from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [1], 31% of adult population of the United States was reported to have hypertension between 2005 and 2008. Of this population, 70% received antihypertensive therapy, and of these, 46% had their condition controlled. Although these results show some improvements compared to previous reports [2], hypertension control is still less than optimal. This public health problem is associated with a major economic burden. Hypertension contributes to increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality that costs nearly $300 billion a year. Thus, developing strategies to improve hypertension control constitutes a major goal.
