UBC exports in December 2002 totaled 1.53 million pounds, 52.9 percent below the month-earlier tally, but 168.0 percent above the December 2001 total. The major buyers in December 2002 were from Mexico (58 percent of shipments), China (31 percent) and India (3 percent). The average export price in December 2002, at 62.2 cents per pound, was 8.1 percent above the year-earlier monthly average. Exports in 2002 totaled 87.74 million pounds, 552.8 percent greater than the year-earlier figure. The principal buyers in 2002 were located in Mexico (95 percent), China (2 percent) and Bahamas (1 percent). The 2002 price, at 57.99 cents per pound, was 12.3 percent below the 2001 level.
