India posts almost two-fold increase in steel imports, to raise duties

India’s steel imports almost doubled over 10 months of the current fiscal year (April 2014 – March 2015) due to slightly stronger demand and low import prices. The increase of import duties on steel products stipulated by the new budget is expected to protect the market from unfair trade practice of China and provide fair market conditions for domestic steel makers.
