Malaysia’s Masteel to lift bar production, hold back imports

Malaysia will reduce imports of steel bars once Masteel’s new bar rolling mill starts operation this year. The project will support local steel industry amid stable growth of the construction sector. Malaysia Steel Works (Masteel) is currently expanding its capacities with another bar rolling mill to be built next to its steelmaking shop in Klang, Selangor state. The new equipment, coming into operation this year, will have an initial capacity of 200,000 t, which will ramp up the total bar production to 650,000 t, as Metal Expert learnt from the company’s website.
