New JV of ArcelorMittal and Valin to oust some of quality auto steel imports from China

On June 15, China’s Valin ArcelorMittal Automotive Steel Co. (VAMA), the joint venture between Luxembourg’s ArcelorMittal and China’s Hunan Valin Iron & Steel Co. inaugurates new automotive steel plant. Despite steel overproduction in the country, Chinese car makers import some 1.5-2 million t of high-quality material now, Lakshmi Mittal, Chairman and CEO of ArcelorMittal, said during the opening conference. The new unit is capable of producing some 1.5 million tpy, including 800,000 t of CR coils, 200,000 t of aluminium-coated coils and 500,000 t of HDG coils.
