India hikes import duty on aluminium products

The Indian government will raise the basic customs duty on primary aluminium from 5% to 7.5%,while duties on aluminium products will increase from 7.5% to 10%. What will be the impact?In its Union Budget FY 2016-17 announcement, the Indian government has proposed to increaseimport duty (or basic customs duty) on primary aluminium (HS codes 7601, 7603, 7604, 7605, 7606and 7607) from 5% to 7.5%. The duty on certain aluminium products (HS codes 7608 and 76090000)will be increased from 7.5% to 10%.
