The amount of datacom cable installed inside a data centre is vast. It can be on the order ofthousands of km. The world's largest data centres cover 250,000 square feet or more (23,000 squaremetres) and have more than 100,000 servers. Facebook, for example, operates several data centresof this magnitude. The Facebook data centre in Altoona Iowa, US covers 500,000 square feet (46,000square metres) and has 50,000 opticallinks that contain 20,000 miles (32,000 kmof fibre).
