Jakarta urged to impose export tariffs

Plate producers in Indonesia are asking their government to slap an export tax on slabs so that domestic needs can be met and to enable the local industry to operate more efficiently.At present, plate manufacturers Gunung Raja Paksi and Gunawan Dianjaya Steel rely on cheaper imports from countries such as Brazil, Japan, Russia and Ukraine. But they would prefer local supply as it is faster and more flexible.
