Characterization of the formation and degradation of a polyacrylamide microgel

The morphology of polyacrylamide microgel in gelation and degelation procedures is characterized by atomic force microscopy. The polymer concentration, the cross-linker concentration, and the type of cross-linker have significant influence on the microstructure of polyacrylamide. The changes in aggregation status result in changes in the rheological properties of the polymer solution and microgel. (C) 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
