Relieving pain in America: Insights from an institute of medicine committee

The 2011 Institute of Medicine (!0M) report "Relieving Pain in America: A Blueprint for Transforming Prevention, Care, Education, and Research" has had considerable influence in raising awareness about the serious public health burdens posed by acute and chronic pain. In particular, as recommended in the report, the National Institutes of Health has made substantial progress in developing a National Pain Strategy for a public health approach to pain prevention, treatment, management, and research.
