China’s largest steel maker to cut capacity

Hebei Steel Group plans to reduce crude steel making capability by 5.02 Mt/y during 2016 and 2017, in linewith government policy of trimming overcapacity in the steel sector. The company will additionally eliminate2.6 Mt/y of iron making capacity in the same period.To weather a supply glut and slowing economy, Hebei plans to raise the proportion of higher value-addedproducts in its total finished steel output to above 70% by 2020, from the current 41%.
