Singapore Secures Long-term Supply of Natural Gas for Jurong Island

SembCorp Gas, a subsidiary of Singapore's government-linked SembCorp Industries, has signed a contract to purchase 186 mn ft~3/d of natural gas from a consortium of producers operating in Indonesia's Na-tuna Sea Block A gas field. Under the contract, valued at up to 5.5 bn, natural gas will be piped to Singapore's Jurong Island starting in 2010-2011 for 7-10 years. With the country's increasing access to natural-gas supply from neighboring countries, the Singapore government is reported to be studying the supply of natural gas as a feedstock for its petrochemical industry on Jurong Island by laying dedicated pipelines. The move, which also would include the laying of dedicated pipelines on the island, would serve to reduce the industry's dependence on naphtha.
