US products demand falters in Dec; refinery production soars.

Gasoline and middle distillates consumption dropped significantly in Dec, coming back down from sharp increases in Nov., but that did not stop refiners from ramping up production rates again. Gasoline output surged to 9.917MM b/d, the highest on record since 1993 and the third straight monthly increase. Middle distillate output rose above 5MM bbl for only the third time on record, with the previous two times also occurring in 2013.
