Three companies this week separately highlighted the importance of research and development(R&D) to themselves and the steel industry in general.TimkenSteel opened a technology centre at its headquarters in Canton, northeast Ohio, to enhancethe company's understanding of the science and measurement of inclusions in the production of cleansteel for special bar quality (SBQ), and to use the knowledge gained to predict component life.
