Vale affirms mid-2017 Samarco restart goal

Brazilian mining giant Vale has confirmed it hopes it and partner BHP Billiton will still be able to resume ironore mining at their Samarco pellet joint venture in the middle of next year.The target had been cast in doubt by disagreements between them on how to proceed, delays in obtainingnecessary permits, a missed bond payment and ongoing civil and criminal litigation following a tailings damcollapse a year ago which killed 19 people. Samarco's operating licence was revoked and operations havebeen suspended ever since.
