Construction of EAF halted in US

US Steel has put on ice plans to add an electric arc furnace (EAF) at its Fairfield works inBirmingham, Alabama, due to challenging market conditions in the oil, gas and steel industries.The $230 M (?212 M) project was seen as a way of transforming operations at the traditional,integrated producer. The 1.6 Mt/y EAF was due to begin production in Q3 this year (CRU Views -Steel, 20 March 2015).
