WILKES BARRE, Pa.-McCarthy Tire Service Co. Inc., which is celebrating 90 years in business in 2016, has opened a Bandag-system retread plant in Wilkes Barre that it claims will be the largest in the U.S., capable of producing 1,000 units a day at full capacity. McCarthy Tire budgeted $3.28 million to convert a 75,000-sq.-ft. warehousing facility in Wilkes Barre-located about a quarter mile from the previous plant-and said it expects the upgrade to create 49 full-time jobs over three years and secure the jobs of 197 employees currently active in the retreading sector.
