Inheritance of resistance to bacterial soft rot in Brassica rapa

Ten B. rapa [B. campestris] genotypes (7 of subsp. pekinensis [B. pekinensis], and one each of subspp. chinensis [B. chinensis], oleifera and rapifera) were used in a half-diallel cross (45 crosses and 10 selfings), and their progeny evaluated for reaction to bacterial soft rot (Erwinia carotovora subsp. carotovora). The data obtained indicated that additive genetic effects predominated in controlling inheritance of resistance to bacterial soft rot. Estimated narrow-sense heritability averaged 42%.It is suggested that resistance might be controlled by 2 major partially dominant genes plus minor genes.
