Christophe Boesch

Born in St. Gall, Switzerland, Christophe Boesch spent his early childhood in that city and moved to Paris at the age of 8 to finish his primary and secondary school. He moved to Geneva in 1968 where he completed his diploma of biology. He began working on chimpanzees in the Ta forest in Cte d’Ivoire in 1979. Since 1998, he is a director at the Max Planck Institute of Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany. His work on the evolution of chimpanzee culture has been synthesised in his recent book Wild Cultures: A Comparison between Chimpanzee and Human Cultures.
