The tightened control at borders by Chinese customs against the roundabout trade is obviously affecting the market of ferrosilicon and manganese metal. Current price of ferrosilicon in an actual deal through an official channel is 1,440 US dollars /ton CIF ex. Tianjin, which is supposedly for urgent covering of a short sale. The price level of the alloy through the unofficial channel in or prior to February was 1,380 US dollars /ton CIF. The need for the short covering apparently resulted from delays/cancellation of shipments to Japan due to the tighter customs' control.
