China Imported 782,000 Tons Of Manganese Ore In February 2011 As Decreased Considerably- Decreased by 32% From That In Jan., Imports From Four Major Sources Had Decline

According to the statistics released in China, the quantities ( on material base ) of manganese ore imported by China in January - February of 2011 as well as in a single month of February were as per the table attached hereto. Namely, China imported 781,574 tons of manganese ore in February of 2011, which had a considerable decrease of 32.2% compared with that ( 1,152,237 tons ) in the previous month of January. Since the steel production in China has been expected to expand further from the beginning of this year, the substantial quantities of manganese ore as raw material for steel production have been contracted to import on long term base but the actual consumption of manganese ore in China was lower than that as anticipated and, consequently, considerable quantities of manganese ore have been stocked at wharves of discharging ports in China, having put a certain impact on prices of manganese ore and silicomanganese.
