Nippon Steel Corporation raised shift of product cost derived from large material price increase and to “earn the margin steadily” as its main business challenges, according to Representative Director and Executive Vice President Shinichi Taniguchi, in this time of post-earthquake and appreciating yen. Since the first half of FY2011 is estimated to have increase in sales and decline in profits, the company is aiming to improve sales price. Average steel sales price for Q1 (April - June) was 85,800 yen per tonne (actual) which increased by 8.5% from the same quarter a year ago, and the price for Q2 (July - September) is further expected at 92,000 yen.
