Both South African and Australian thermal coal markets which turned downward in January are still remain under weak tune at the beginning of February. The markets remained under weak tune by early February, but became upward once again in mid-February following hikes in the price of crude oil. However, with recovery of damage by cyclone which hit Queensland, Australia, and commencement of drop-off season of coal for consumers, supply and demand balance in thermal coal has been stabilized. In consequence, upward turn could not last so long and the markets became loose to the end of the month.
