There has surfaced a strong apprehension on a decrease in exports of Russian metallurgical coal from now. That is because of the outbreak in the last week of a large explosion accident at Raspadskaya underground coal mine in the Kemerovo Region operated by one of the major metallurgical coal producers of this country, OAO Raspadskaya. By the explosion accident this time, more than 40 coal mine workers passed away together with another 50 or so of workers who are still missing. In consequence, at Raspadskaya underground coal mine, the operation seems very likely to be suspended for quite a long time till the cause of the accident be disclosed and safety measures would be put into practice.
