It is expected that, provided there is enough water for irrigation, the production of Spanish cotton will be maintained during the next few years with acreage of around 100,000 hectares. We do not expect a substantial increase on such acreage, due tothe regulations of the European Union, that would penalize a bigger crop by reducing proportionally the minimum guaranteed price of cottonseed to growers. The Spanish ginners are taking the necessary steps to improve the quality of cotton. A large proportion of the crop is sowed under plastic thus reducing the growing period, avoiding the risk of typica end of October/November rains.
