I wish to comment on the news item that said community pharmacists in England will in future be able to confirm whether a patient is entitled to free prescriptions by accessing a Department of Work and Pensions database (The Pharmaceutical Journal 2014;294:4). This development has the potential (depending on how it is implemented) to save time and resource in the pharmacy rather than "adding to the bureaucratic burden".
