NHS England delays care.data project

NHS England has decided to delay its controversial data sharing programme — care.data — following widespread concerns. The organisation was due to start extracting anonymised information from patient records, including patients' medication histories, in April 2014 to put into the new central database. The intention is that the data will help the NHS better plan future services and give researchers and scientists more detailed evidence in the fight against disease and illness.
