A RECENT review of data collected by anthropologist Franz Boas in the late 19th century provides further evidence that environmental stressors can interfere with physical development in humans. Boas spent much of his life studying indigenous cultures in the US. He showed that, contrary to opinion of the time, head shape was not a stable racial trait.
