TRIBUTES FOR COLIN HITCHINGS

Colin Hitchings joined the register of the Pharmaceutical Society in 1963. After early hospital pharmacy posts in Wales he was appointed in 1965 chief pharmacist to the Queen Elizabeth II hospital (QEII) in Welwyn Garden Oity. It was during that time that I first met him when I went as a summer student. We immediately found common ground both in technical pharmacy and the importance of networking — a skill at which he was superb. While I was at QEII, Colin was appointed chief pharmacist at Northwick Park Hospital in Harrow, and immediately offered me a post there to undertake my preregistration year. Northwick Park was an important milestone for me because I met the other trainee, Jean, who subsequently became my wife. Colin was a very good tutor — allowing we juniors to develop outside the formal curriculum and gain superb experience. His friendship to us continued until the end, and we stayed with him in Milford Haven only a couple of months ago when he was still quite active.
