Research highlights opportunity for pharmacy to fill gap in flu vaccinations

PEOPLE who qualify for a free influenza vaccination on the NHS are choosing to pay for it privately at their community pharmacy instead, according to research published online on 24 January 2014 in BMC Health Services Research (2014;14:35). Patients said they were prepared to pay a fee of ￡12.99 because they preferred the ease and convenience of visiting their community pharmacy. They liked the pharmacy environment and found it difficult to get an appointment at their GP practice, Claire Anderson and Tracey Thornley, from the school of pharmacy at the University of Nottingham, found.
