Attempts to obtain medicines falsely for financial gain leads to suspension

ATTEMPTING to obtain medicines from a manufacturer that controlled their distribution in order to sell them on has led to a pharmacist's 12-month suspension by order of the fitness-to-practise committee of the General Pharmaceutical Council. Rajnish Singh Baxi (registration number 2049754) appeared before the committee on 8 July 2013. Information had been received from Novartis Pharmaceutical UK Ltd that orders for its products had been received which gave cause for concern. In April 2011 he had faxed through two anonymised prescriptions to Novartis, one on 8 April for a Tobi Nebulizer 300mg and one on 12 April for Sandostatin, with both prescriptions bearing the same unique serial number. In August 2011, he had faxed a further two anonymised prescriptions, on around 22 August for Glivec 100mg and on around 26 August for Glivec 400mg.
