Tacrolimus in breast milk does not harm infants

BREASTFEEDING does not increase blood levels of tacrolimus in infants born to women taking the drug, a new online study reveals (Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, 24 January 2013). The observational cohort compared blood tacrolimus levels in infants exposed to the drug during pregnancy who were breastfed (n= 12) with those who were bottle-fed (n=3).
