ROYAL Pharmaceutical Society watchers may have noted that the turnout for the election to the English Pharmacy Board has dropped below 20 per cent (17.8 per cent of eligible voters participated). This is the second lowest turnout in recent memory, the lowest (of about 16 per cent) occurring in 2008 when the last Council was elected. All other recent votes have attracted over 20 per cent of eligible voters although, over the past decade, numbers have gradually been drifting downwards.Scotland, where a board election also took place, had a turnout of over 30 per cent. Notwithstanding the much smaller electorate this can only be an indication of greater engagement. (No ballot was required in Wales.) See p723 for full details.
