Community pharmacists keep patients safe

As a practising community pharmacist, I must ask the Royal Pharmaceutical Society to reexamine its policy position on patient safety in light of the recent Genera] Medical Council's study into prescribing errors (PJ, 5 May 2012, p547). In recent media interviews the position espoused by our professional body was the suggestion for a pharmacist in every GP surgery. In the space of my nine-year career in front-line practice, I have seen around 750,000 prescription items and have also been a practice support pharmacist.
