New dabigatran first dose advice

PATIENTS switching to dabigatran should be given their first dose up to two hours before their current medicine is due to be taken, advice from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency states. For patients being switched from a continuously administered drug, the first dose ofdabigatran (Pradaxa; Boehringer Ingelheim) should be given when continuous treatment is stopped, the MHRA says in its latest Drug Safety Update.
