Credentialling advanced level practice

AS DRIVERS for health service changes continue to grow, the knowledge and skills required to deliver those services will inevitably change. Although studies on this matter are not conclusive, the implementation of a process of credentialling (or professional recognition) for advanced expertise may help both practitioners and health care employers to ensure better patient safety, quality of care and outcomes. Furthermore, professional recognition and credentialling might be applied for three different purposes: to support practitioner development and progression through training; to support revalidation of practice; and to ensure a quality assured, robust evaluation of advanced levels of practice.
