ABPI calls for overhaul of wholesaling

DRUG manufacturers are calling for the legal separation of pharmacy wholesaling and dispensing functions, to help stabilise the UK medicines supply chain. Clearly separated orders and audit trails for wholesale and dispensing processes would enable manufacturers to target any drugs in short supply at the appropriate arm of the pharmacy business, according to the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, which gave oral evidence this week at the All-Party Pharmacy Group's inquiry into medicines shortages.
