Cotton Council International Consumer Demand Is There, Let's Make the Most of It

Taking advantage of existing opportunities, and creating new ones, to enhance consumer demand for cotton is a critical factor affecting global cotton consumption. CCI and Cotton Incorporated are capitalizing on these opportunities to build demand forcotton apparel products in both developing and developed consumer markets. Cotton demand had been rising at least at the pace of overall fiber demand for a decade, but suffered a strong shock from the economic crisis, and again from the price volatilityof this past year. Current forecasts indicate a further slowing of demand compared with previous forecasts, but long-term cotton demand growth may be significantly underestimated. Global fiber demand is still expected to rise dramatically over the long term, providing an opportunity for cotton to meet that demand.
