With increasing numbers of universities coming clean and announcing the fees that they will charge undergraduates from 2012, it seems at this stage that most future pharmacists will have to pay the top rate of £9,000 per annum, or just below that figure (p425).Will these fees deter sixth-formers from applying to university at all? Or will they benefit pharmacy because of its vocational nature and the fact that it has, to date, been a secure profession to join in terms of employment prospects? These questions will not begin to be answered until early 2012, when the first cohort of students who face these fees apply for their undergraduate courses.
