COMMON prescription medicines could account for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in one in 10 patients with the condition, new research suggests (Archives of Internal Medicine 2011;171:1680). The study examined the association between the use of selected common medicines and LUTS. in men who had enrolled in the California Men's Health Study between 2002 and 2003. For the 63,579 men included in the cross-sectional study, bronchodilators and antide- pressants were found to have the strongest associations with LUTS (odds ratio 1.22 and 1.39, respectively), after adjustments for region, age and ethnicity.
