RPS board member quits job in tuition fee protest

Tristan Learoyd, academic member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's English Pharmacy Board, has left his post at the University of Sunderland in protest against tuition fees, although he will remain on the board. Dr Learoyd has made what he calls his principled stand in response to the planned hike in tuition fees, which he believes will price poorer students out of higher education. In addition, he told The Journal: "University lecturers are producing a product and are using their creativity less and less, autonomy is being eroded and non-academic management is stifling academic advancement."
