STOPPING low-dose aspirin treatment increases the risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction (MI) for patients with a history of heart disease by nearly two-thirds, according to a BMJ study (online, 19 July 2011). Using the UK Health Improvement Network database, investigators identified 39,513 patients aged 50-84 years who were prescribed low-dose aspirin for the secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease between 2000 and 2007.
