NMS delivery will earn up to ￡25 per patient in complex payment schedule

PAYMENTS for delivering the new medicine service have been set out in the mird update document on changes to the community pharmacy contractual framework 2011-12 from the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee and NHS Employers, published this week (2 August 2011). In a complicated payment schedule, rather than a single fee per service delivery, the model will be based on prescription volume and four target bands. For example, a pharmacy dispensing between 2,501 and 3,500 prescriptions a month will have a target of 15 NMS completions that month. It will have to achieve 20 per cent of the target to receive ￡75, and 40 per cent of the target to receive ￡150. The other two target bands are 60 and 80 per cent. The 20 per cent band will be removed in year 2 of the service. Completions from one month cannot be carried over to the next.
