IT STARTED when we spoke in January. Over a number of years, we periodically called each other about work-related matters, as we have similar professional roles, experience and standing and we want a view on issues from outside our immediate work environment. One of us (Nina Barnett) had just completed a one-year secondment at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and had been involved in developing the RPS mentoring scheme. We spoke about that, and we came up with the idea of a "two-man pilot" of peer mentoring which combined peer support and, where appropriate, clinical input.
