Handle NHS data carefully to safeguard public trust

PUBLIC trust in the life sciences sector could be damaged if Government proposals to share NHS patient data with researchers are not communicated with care, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society has warned. The proposals are part of a Government strategy for boosting UK drug development (see above), which was broadly welcomed by pharmacy and industry bodies. Chief executive of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry Stephen Whitehead said that, if supported in the right way, the strategy could boost the UK economy.
